One thing I have learned I have learned being a small business owner is the importance of having a good Social Media presence. Most often people are quick to "google" information about you and your business before they buy or set an appointment with you. They want to get a feel for you as a person before they decide to spend their dollars and time with you.
When I started my thrift business there were several things I needed to do and that included creating social media pages to get myself out there. I talked about all the things that you can start doing to get your thrift business up in my last Blog. Social Media for the most part is FREE and this is where you let people know you exist.
Many people have a fear of promoting their business on Social Media because of many reasons. Whether it's a lack of knowledge about social media, you don't know what to post, or you are scared to go 'LIVE" you need to be on social media!
Fear of Social Media
I remember with my other business I was encouraged to go LIVE to talk about my business. Fear started to creep up because I didn't want to be judged or talked about negatively. So much went through my mind and I had to put those fears aside and do what needed to be done for my business.
The day came when I went "LIVE" for 5 mins and gradually I increased my time because I started becoming comfortable with the camera. After a while it became fun and the interaction with other people took it to another level. And today the fears are gone and going LIVE is now second nature to me.
If you own a thrift business you can go LIVE on social media along with posting pictures, videos, or shorts (videos less than 60 sec) to let people know what you are selling and where they can find these items. If you fear the "LIVE" posting is a great way to start until you build up that courage to go LIVE.
Getting over the fear of Social Media takes time and not everybody is comfortable with doing so. If this is you then you can hire and VA (virtual assistant) or your teenage kid if you have one to do your postings for you! Most of them are tech-savvy and they make using social medial fun because they put their spin on things too! A VA can often be costly if you are just starting and you will have to train and meet with them to discuss the specifics of your social media. You must plan it out before you hire a VA.
Social Media Thrift Shopping

People who are interested in online shopping and looking for bargains are waiting to see what you are selling. Because of the increase in the cost of goods and services about 95% of Americans are choosing bargain or thrift shopping for everyday needs. Most are shopping for kids' clothing. My thrift stores (closets) have lots of kids' clothing at a discounted price and are gently used--almost like new. This is one of the best things about selling your kid's clothing in your reseller shop. The clothes will sell because parents and caretakers are trying to find cheaper ways to get quality clothing that will last for a while.
Popular thrifting items like housewares are also at the top of the list for buyers. Anything in your kitchen that you don't need or want you can also choose to sell. Again people who have big families and looking to cut costs can benefit from your gently used cookware, electric kettle, etc.
Just make sure it works and you aren't selling something that you wouldn't want to be sold to you!
